Holiday Treats

Tis the season for cooking and baking! This year you should try a little something different to go along with all the holiday cookies you plan on baking. Don’t forget about your dog or friend’s dogs. There are plenty of dog-healthy treats that are very easy to make. Me and my mom actually have tried one recipe earlier this month and have made about 5 more batches because my dogs and all of our friend’s dogs LOVE them. It’s like they know when we are baking them that they are for them. It’s not hard and does not take a lot of time, only 15 minutes prep time. So when your relaxing on Saturday or Sunday afternoon, do something special for your little furry friends. I will even make it easier for you and post below the recipe I make. It can be a fun process using dog bone cut outs or any fun cut out you already have in the house.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup canned pumpkin
  • 2 tablespoons peanut butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Whisk together the flour, eggs, pumpkin, peanut butter, salt, and cinnamon in a bowl. Add water as needed to help make the dough workable, but the dough should be dry and stiff. Roll the dough into a 1/2-inch-thick roll. Cut into 1/2-inch pieces.
  3. Bake in preheated oven until hard, about 40 minutes.
